Humans of FS Team Delft

November 11, 2016

This week we have one of our core team members: Simon Langford!

“I study in Delft for my masters in Mechanical engineering, but I’m originally from the Schwarzwald in Germany. I joined the team last year with the DUT16 as a part-timer in the chassis department, where I spent a lot of time on the carbon fibre production of the monocoque and aero package. I decided to join because I’m passionate about racing and generally going fast in any way, whether it’s driving the car, skiing down a mountain or riding my motorbike back in Germany. This year I’m part of the team again, but as a fulltime core team member. I will be working as the chief chassis, which means a mix of engineering and management. The chassis contains a lot of interfacing, so I have to communicate with the other departments as much as possible. I really enjoy the discussions and meetings with the other team members that result from this. Last year I was part of the driver selection program, and I had a blast driving the car. It’s like a go-kart on steroids, and then even faster! I didn’t get to drive the car at the competitions last time around, but I’m going to try and get through the driver selection this time.”
