Since the last time I wrote a blog post quite some things have happened in the team. In the past weeks many team members have been working on finalizing all the designs, making parts lighter, stronger and completing drawings. All this is needed to start production for this year's car. Most of the team has been transferred to a production team, manufacturing parts for the car. Since not every department is making the same parts, not everyone is on the same schedule. This makes the software and controls department an exception. Software is something that couples almost every component in the car and there is always room for improvement, adaptations and tweaks, as the system gradually improves over time. Since the software is present in so many components, it depends a lot on deadlines in other departments. The electronics department has been receiving V1-components from our sponsor TBP and Eurocircuits in the last three weeks. This means that we can start testing the first iteration of the circuit boards and verify that all the implemented functionality actually performs as desired. If something does not work, there is still time to change the chip or fix the incorrect part. The verification of the new parts that are going in the car is very important, as we can't keep changing the PCB's infinitely.
Another thing that is currently in the works is a new display for our car. Last year the car had a black and white display on the dashboard to display the information system. This year we are building a new interface for our driver using a new RGB screen that is suitable for bright environments. This will allow the driver to see the information displayed in the spanish sun!
